$10,000 a month in Singapore: take-home pay above the CPF ceiling

Reviewed by Radif Partners

Into the 11.5 % band

A salary of $10,000 a month is above the CPF ceiling, so the employee contribution stays at $1,600, 16 % of salary rather than 20 %, and take-home pay is $8,400. Income tax becomes a real item for the first time. Chargeable income for the year is $99,800, past $80,000, where the resident rate rises from 7 % to 11.5 %. The YA 2027 bill is $5,627, about $469 a month, and every additional dollar is taxed at 11.5 %. That is also the point at which voluntary reliefs start to pay: a $15,300 contribution to the Supplementary Retirement Scheme would save about $1,760 of tax this year, and a cash top-up of $8,000 to your Special Account about $920.

Once the employer’s CPF share is removed, MOM’s June 2025 figures put the median full-time resident salary at about $4,900 a month and the 20th percentile at about $2,700. A salary of $10,000 a month is 104 % above the median of about $4,900, which places it in the upper half of full-time residents. These are estimates based on the published income figures, which include employer CPF. Average and median salary in Singapore.

Questions people ask

How much tax on $120,000 a year in Singapore?

$5,627 for a citizen aged 30 paid $10,000 a month without bonus, for YA 2027. Chargeable income after the earned income relief and CPF relief is $99,800. A resident foreigner with no CPF pays $7,835, and a non-resident the higher of 15 % of gross pay and the resident scale.

Why is my CPF only 16 % of my $10,000 salary?

Because CPF is charged only on the first $8,000 of monthly ordinary wages. 20 % of $8,000 is $1,600, which is 16 % of $10,000. The same ceiling limits your employer’s share to $1,360, so every raise above $8,000 reaches your take-home pay in full, before income tax.

Is SRS worth it on a $10,000 salary?

It saves tax at your marginal rate, 11.5 % here. The maximum $15,300 contribution for citizens and PRs would cut this year’s bill by about $1,760. The money is locked until the statutory retirement age, and half of each withdrawal is then taxed.
