$5,000 a month in Singapore: take-home pay for citizens, PRs and foreigners
Reviewed by Radif Partners
One salary, three take-home figures
$5,000 a month is the round figure most people use to picture a Singapore salary, and it produces three different take-home figures depending on status. A citizen aged 30 contributes 20 % to CPF and takes home $4,000. A permanent resident in the first year of PR status, on graduated rates, contributes 5 % and takes home $4,750. A foreigner on an Employment Pass, who does not contribute to CPF, takes home the full $5,000. The income tax runs the other way: $1,040 for the citizen, whose CPF relief lowers taxable income, $1,880 for a resident foreigner, who has no CPF relief. Over a year, the citizen keeps $46,960 in cash and $22,200 in CPF, the foreigner $58,120 in cash and nothing in CPF. $5,000 is also below the Employment Pass qualifying salary of $5,600.
