$30 an hour in Singapore: salary equivalent and freelance reality
Reviewed by Radif Partners
Salaried at $30 or freelancing at $30
An employee paid $30.00 an hour on a full-time week earns $5,720 a month on MOM’s formula, $68,640 a year. A citizen aged 30 contributes $1,144 to CPF, takes home $4,576 and owes $1,524 of tax for YA 2027; the employer adds $972 of CPF and SDL on top, and pays annual leave, sick leave and public holidays. A freelancer billing $30.00 an hour is in a very different position: no employer CPF, no paid leave, and only the hours actually billed. Billing 1,500 hours a year, a realistic figure after gaps and admin, gives $45,000 of fees, less than the salaried $68,640 before even counting the employer’s CPF of $11,664. To match the employee’s full package, a freelancer would need to bill around $54 an hour.
