$8,000 a month: the CPF ceiling and your take-home pay

Reviewed by Radif Partners

Exactly at the ordinary wage ceiling

$8,000 a month is the CPF ordinary wage ceiling for 2026, the salary at which contributions reach their maximum. A citizen aged 30 pays $1,600 and the employer $1,360, $2,960 in total; neither figure grows with any further raise. Take-home pay is $6,400. From here, every extra dollar of salary reaches the bank account in full rather than at 80 cents. The ceiling also fixes the Additional Wage ceiling at its lowest possible level: $6,000 a year, since $96,000 of ordinary wages already count towards the annual $102,000. Any bonus above $6,000 is paid without CPF. The CPF relief for tax is capped the same way, so taxable income rises faster than salary from this point: chargeable income is $75,800 and the YA 2027 bill $3,056.

How this is calculated

The ceiling has been raised in steps

The ordinary wage ceiling was $6,000 until August 2023 and has been raised in stages to $8,000 in 2026, to keep CPF adequate for middle-income earners. Each increase raised both contributions and employer costs for everyone at or above the old ceiling.

Once the employer’s CPF share is removed, MOM’s June 2025 figures put the median full-time resident salary at about $4,900 a month and the 20th percentile at about $2,700. A salary of $8,000 a month is 63 % above the median of about $4,900, which places it in the upper half of full-time residents. These are estimates based on the published income figures, which include employer CPF. Average and median salary in Singapore.

Questions people ask

What is the maximum CPF contribution per month in 2026?

$2,960 on ordinary wages for someone aged 55 or below, of which $1,600 from the employee and $1,360 from the employer. It is reached at the $8,000 ceiling. Additional wages such as a bonus can attract more, up to the Additional Wage ceiling.

Does a raise above $8,000 increase my CPF?

Not on ordinary wages: contributions stop at the $8,000 ceiling, so a raise to $9,000 leaves CPF at $1,600 and adds the full $1,000 to take-home pay, before income tax. Your bonus is still subject to CPF up to $6,000 a year.

How much tax on $8,000 a month in Singapore?

$3,056 for YA 2027 for a citizen aged 30 with the automatic reliefs. Chargeable income is $75,800, just below the $80,000 point where the rate rises from 7 % to 11.5 %; a bonus would push part of the income into the 11.5 % band.
